vietnam There is a place called Vietnam, that we were taught to fear All that communist aggression, and why we could never let it near
But what we were never told, and what we never saw Were very special people, who just wanted to defend their country from us all
So if you look at history, there is one thing that you will find And that is that no culture wants another to make up their mind
Even though things may be different from what we want to see Are we really justified to keep others from what they want to be?
And freedoms just another word for not being oppressed, But when you look at Ho Chi Minh, he was nothing but the best
For what he saw were autocracies, that no one should ever see And these were against his people, who just wanted to be free
So he tried and tried in vain, to bend the western ear But the more he tried in earnest, the more we were taught to fear
So we sent our men so brave, to help this country out Oblivious to their culture that we were again taught to doubt
And it cost so many lives, that it is hard to put to rest How those who didn’t know, wanted to put war to the test
For war should never happen, unless those “killing fields” begin Cause then the time is right, to save our fellow man
So if we can just build on all our ancestors taught This world could be quite different, with no more wars to be fought
And if this just can happen and become more than just a dream Then we can really value life, without ever being mean
And learn as much from others as we learn from ourselves And work towards universal peace, and put war finally on the shelf.
