side by side Have you ever wondered how it would be, if we could all live side by side With no more antagonistic aggression aimed at taking another’s hide
Although it seems so simple, to greet others with a smile to work towards a world in harmony with it’s endless rewards, mile after mile
For this world is our gigantic melting pot, of different races, ideas and creeds And a varied assortment of the “best ways” that can answer all our needs
But when we listen closer, to others who live nearby We unfortunately discover, that things are more that meets the eye
As facts get more one sided, and should not be questioned anymore For they know what’s best for everyone, from shore to distant shore
And what’s more have you heard, of this nasty and that And how they are really after you, even though they are not a threat
And although things may be small now, as they seek to defend their turf Their molehill becomes their mountain; with a wave you dare not surf
And what brought all of this about, well we may never know What is known is the hate that’s there, as they try to even up the show
An when all of this gets said and done, and everyone fears the other We will wind up left with less than zero, and no one as our brother
Or will we finally wake up and just listen to the leaves That but for the grace of God rustles never to deceive
And learn to confront our problems as our own, that we in turn should solve Or continue passing blames to others, until there is only God above20 March 2000© Copyright 19 April 2000. John W. Holloway. All rights reserved.
