  poems for a new tomorrow

Up

poison ivy

I’d been told to keep an eye out

and I knew to keep some space

from that delicate poison ivy

that seems harmless face to face

that is until you get

too close, in fact, to find

that it’s just a delicate illusion

that was only in your mind

for it’s far from what you bargained for

and it will burn and sting your pride

till you happily discover

how it’s so nice, not to have that, by your side
